Why is MOTU still in the team?

What is up with the baldy motu still being in the Indian team..? I havent seen him perform since the 300 odd he hit against Pakistan in a test match. He is soo inconsistent and not at all dependable. Y is he selected for the worldcup? They sacked dada for not performing so y not sack motu?

They needed a qualified opening batsman to play 4 down. There is no other explanation for it.

They picked him simply because excluding him would have ben far more controversial. And, it's not true that he stopped performing after his 300 in Pakistan. I don't have the statistics handy but I remember him coming up ith quite a few big knocks after that 300.

That apart, I personally think Sehwag should be in the team simply because he has got a quality that no other Indian front-line batsman ever had - being ruthless with the opposition. Who else can go over the top for a big six to get his country's first ever triple hundred? Borrowing from our commentators, when he gets going, going gets tough for the opposition. I don't think india can afford to drop him, regardless of his form, at least for now!

(Dada's is a different story altogether. And his omission has seemed to have done aworld of good for him and the team.)

Agree with ganesh that having sehwag in the lineup is a risk that could payoff big. it's like buying a lottery ticket. Chances of winning are low but u keep buying it hoping that u might get lucky.

Ganesh & Rago - No doubt that he CAN be a threat when he walks in. I always enjoy the game when he plays, but India as a team i dont think is in a great position rite now, and like rago was sayin he is a gamble; but still wouldnt u rather pick a person who is in form? I got a chance to watch the SL vs India matches. He scored a 12 and a 19. Those scores are not gonna fetch u a worldcup. We cant gamble by sayin "he will hit next game.." There were sooo many players who were sent out to play local cricket and came back to the team and performed well. My question is Y cant they let him play a few more games locally or in a county and then decide! I still dont understand the politics behind this....

Since he is already in the worldcup team... i just hope that he works on gettin his form back. As of now, India is not doing great. They were struggling to win a home game against SL who dint have Vaas or Muralidharan in their team.

There is no politics involved. Pepsi, Boost and his other endorsements have already invested a lotof money... and if he does not even make it to teh national team, it would be a big problem for them.

What is idiotic is that when VEngsarkar was asked why Nehra was nto chosen, he said it has been long since Nehra performed... I just wished the same kind of logic had been applied to Sehwag.

Meanwhile JarJar Binks (Nehra) and Lachumipathy... are permanently convalescing from an unknown illness called neglect.

Sehwag scored 2 centuries in local cricket... though. Maybe he just paid the unpire. Cannot put it beyond him.
